School Lunch Program

The School Lunch Project pays for a noon meal for students at a girls’ middle school whose parents cannot afford school. For the 2008-09 school year, Friends of Burkina Faso supported noon-day meals for about 500 students of Lycée Modern de l’Amitié high school. School lunches improve students’ capacity to concentrate and contribute to their academic performance.

18 year old Ouegraogo Kadiatou has this to say about herself and the program: “My parents are subsistence farmers in Douma, 45 kilometers from Ouahigouya. The teachers at the Lycée Modern de l’Amitié are serious and the school work is rewarding. I hope to earn my secondary diploma here.  I want to become a mathematics professor. While in school, I live in Ouahigouya with my brother who is a mechanic. I walk six kilometers each day to the lycée. We have no breakfast so I appreciate the noon meal here.”
